June Summary Report

June was a fairly productive month. I finished two quilts and several blocks for others. If I can keep at this pace, I should be able to meet my goal of finishing 11 quilts by the end of the year. I say I "should" because a lot of the tops that are waiting to be quilted are fairly large (queen or king) so I've been finishing a bunch of smaller ones first. But I can't put them off forever....or can I?!?! So we'll see what I can do in July. I'd really like to get two completed but there are a lot of summer things coming up, so only time will tell.

Accomplishments in June:
  • Spent 39-1/4 hours in the sewing room
  • Finished Bricks & Stepping Stones
  • Finished Turtle Talk
  • Pieced 3 blocks for another QOV group project
  • Pieced 4 blocks for "Block Party" group project
  • Starting cutting fabric for Snow Wonderland.
My goals for July are:
  • Start piecing Snow Wonderland
  • Quilt Quilting Gone Wild
  • Quilt TWiO or one of my other older tops
  • Start piecing Patchwork Party '08 blocks

Sunday Stash Report - 6/29

What did I do this week? Let's see....I finished quilt #8 for the year, added borders and started loading Quilting Gone Wild, and continued cutting pieces for Snow Wonderland.

In - 6 yards (backing and borders for QGW), 3 panels equaling about 2-1/2 yards, and 3 yards for the July monthly FQ bundle.

Used - 5-1/2 yards used for Quilting Gone Wild and 1/2 yard used on binding for Turtle Talk.

This week's numbers (Goal: Use 50 yards by EOY):
  • Fabric Added This Week - 11-1/2 yards
  • Fabric Added as of Apr. '08 - 90 yards
  • Fabric Used This Week - 6 yards
  • Fabric Used Year to Date - 34-1/4 yards
Goals for this Coming Week:
  • Continue cutting fabric for Snow Wonderland
  • Quilt Quilting Gone Wild

Next week's report also won't be good, but I'm not going to freak out about it. Two quilt shops in the area are having some pretty good sales. With prices going up for everything, if I can get more fabric at $3.00-$5.00/yd I'm gonna have fun!!! I am going to try to mostly get backing fabrics for future projects and fabrics that will be used in patterns that I'm planning to work on.

Ready, Set, Go!

This morning hubby and I met another couple to watch the Triathlon in Elkhart Lake. This was my first time going and it was amazing. There were over 800 participants...none that I knew (that I know of). There was a wide range too...from the die-hard athletes, skinny, fat, young, old. This really surprised me because I pictured someone that could do this as being in ultimate condition. What really inspired me was one man who approached the water on crutches. This man had one leg, his second leg was only from the knee up. It really made me feel like a slug. Here this guy is doing a triathlon and I have a hard time walking or biking a couple miles. Although I don't foresee myself doing a triathlon anytime in the near future, this definitely inspired me to continue getting in better shape.

I also loaded the backing for Quilting Gone Wild onto the frame. The batting is de-wrinkling. After I got that done I cut more pieces for Snow Wonderland. I've got about 1/4 of the fabrics to cut yet. Then I can start piecing the blocks. :0)

On another note, DH just brought the mail in and guess what?? My package came from Fat Quarter Shop!!! I just joined the Moda FQ bundle club (they also have one for jelly rolls, charms and layer cakes) so every month I get 12 fat quarters of one of the new fabric collections. July's collection is Isn't Christmas Jolly. Also in the package was my Patchwork Party 2008 block. I know, I know. I'm suppose to be stashbusting. I tried avoiding it but ended up caving and ordering the blocks and kit earlier this week. I originally was going to get the log cabin finishing kit from Quilters Quarters but when I tried to add it to the cart, it said it was no longer available. That's what I get for waiting until the end. I ended up chosing the Fireworks in Prairie Park from Homespun Hearth. This top was just so different I thought it would be neat to make. It's very possible the top may never get completed though since I'm not a big applique fan....hhhmm, maybe one of my friends will offer to do the applique for me. (jk) Actually the applique pieces look fairly large so I think I should be able to manage it. It's the smaller pieces that I don't do well on.

Fish Friday

Races were cancelled tonight because of rain so we went out for a Friday fish fry. It was yummy.

I have vacation until Tuesday, the 8th so I'm hoping to get some sewing in. DH has shutdown for two weeks but we really don't have set plans while I'm on vacation except to have a 4th of July party with the neighbors on the 3rd. One day we might go the zoo and Brewers game too. Otherwise we'll probably just work on stuff around the house. I also want to go to two quilt shops....one is closing in fall and they have a lot of fabric 40% off already and patterns/FQ bundles 25% off. The other shop put a bunch of fabric on clearance for $3.00/yd. Not to mention that I just ordered a Dandelion FQ bundle from Hancocks of Paducah at 40% off. Yikes!

The backing is ready for Quilting Gone Wild so I'd like to try getting that load on the frame tomorrow sometime. Apparently we're also going to watch the beginning of a triathalon in one of the cities that's just south of us.

Quilty goals:
  1. Load Quilting Gone Wild on frame.
  2. Continue cutting fabric for Snow Wonderland.

As Promised...

here is a picture of Turtle Talk.

I had originally planned on doing a feathered wreath in the light purple squares, but couldn't decide what to do in the rest of the areas, so I ended up just doing a meander.

Happy Wednesday!

Hang in there, it's almost Friday!!!

Second Finish for the Month!!!

Turtle Talk is DONE!!! I did a simple meander on it. I will post a picture of it tomorrow.

I also received the Fabricholics fabric today so I started putting the borders on Quilting Gone Wild. I'm not sure how I want to do the corners yet though. I bought a panel which I might be able to use some of the blocks or I could use the strips leftover from the blocks. I'll figure something out at work tomorrow.

Goals for the Week:
  • Finish binding Turtle Talk. - DONE
  • Continue cutting fabric for Snow Wonderland
  • Add borders (when fabric arrives) to Quilting Gone Wild and load on the frame

Monday, Monday

Today I had off of work and made a lot of progress in the sewing room. I got Turtle Talk quilted and currently I am working on hand sewing the binding to the back. I'm halfway done.

I also continued cutting fabric for Snow Wonderland. Almost half of the pieces are cut out.

Goals for the Week:

  1. Finish binding Turtle Talk.
  2. Continue cutting fabric for Snow Wonderland.
  3. Add borders (when fabric arrives) to Quilting Gone Wild and load on the frame.

Off Topic: Kudos to Ben Sheets for pitching another complete game and to the entire team for winning the first game on a long road trip. Let's get number 2 tomorrow!!!

Sunday Stash Report - 6/22

Let's see what did I accomplish this week? I finished 4 pineapple blocks for my group's Block Party. I also started cutting pieces for Snow Wonderland. I absolutely LOVE these fabrics. They are absolutely yummy! That was all I managed to squeeze in this week.

Above is a picture of contents for the Snow Wonderland kit I'm working on. I had seen this kit at Paducah, but didn't buy it because I didn't think it would fit in my suitcase. After the huge project at work, I decided that I would this for my co-worker who loves snowmen. I searched for it online and found it on The Woolen Willow website. I had never ordered from them before, but definitely would buy from them again. They emailed me shortly after I ordered stating they were waiting for one fabric to arrive yet so my kit wouldn't be shipped right away. (I've had several online shops that didn't communicate that something was backordered until I emailed them to ask where my order was. As a quilter, you can understand that we're not patient when there is new fabric or quilty stuff involved.) The package arrived the following week and all of the fabric is labeled and there is more than enough fabric in case there is a boo-boo.

Tomorrow I have off of work and my main focus is going to be working on Turtle Talk. My goal was to have it done by June 30 so I need to hustle to make that happen. The border fabric should arrive by mid-week so I should get the top finished this week too. I didn't receive any fabric this week but I did get three pantos: Rainbow Flight, Square Spiral, and Dust Devil.

This week's numbers (Goal: Use 50 yards by EOY):
  • Fabric Added This Week - 0 yards
  • Fabric Added as of Apr. '08 - 78-1/2 yards
  • Fabric Used This Week - 1/2 yards
  • Fabric Used Year to Date - 28-1/4 yards
Goals for this Coming Week:
  • Finish loading Turtle Talk to quilting frame and start quilting
  • Continue cutting fabric for Snow Wonderland
  • Add borders on Quilting Gone Wild (when it arrives)

Finally Friday!

I never thought Friday would get here. Why does the week seem longer now that I'm only working four (1o hour) days a week? Gadzooks!!!!

Yesterday I finished two of the four pineapple blocks that I'm making for our group's Block Party. The first round is done on the last two blocks. Then I will have met all my deadlines and can work on my UFOs.

My quilting goals are as follows:
  1. Finish Peg's pineapple blocks.

  2. Piece batting for Turtle Talk and quilt it.

  3. Start cutting fabric for Snow Wonderland (which will be for a co-worker).

  4. Add borders to Quilting Gone Wild and quilt it.

  5. Load Third Weekend in October on frame. (This monster has been waiting for 2 years to be quilted)

We'll see how much I can get accomplished this month yet. I plan on getting #1 done tomorrow. I should get a good start on quilting Turtle Talk on Monday when I'm off. Then I am on vacation the week of 4th of July so might get started on Quilting Gone Wild. My mind is set on doing a lot of decluttering in the house that week too, and sewing would be a good "break" project. I'd like to have the Snow Wonderland blocks done by the end of July.

Mid-week Update

Not too much to report for quilting. DH was also off on Monday when I was off so didn't get into the sewing room. Last night and tonight I worked on making two scrappy pineapple blocks (pattern from Quiltville) for Kathy. Once I get off the 'puter I'm going to work on two pink pineapple blocks for Peg. Then my focus will be to get Turtle Talk quilted. I had put down a deadline of June 30 so I'll need to get motoring to get it done by then.

Earlier in the week I ordered the border and backing fabric for Quilting Gone Wild. I found some Fabricholics fabric on sale and it was more of what I wanted for the border. That will be on the frame right after Turtle Talk gets done.

As for getting healthier, I haven't been doing very good this week. Hopefully this weekend I can get back on track with walking and eating better. Stay tuned.

Sunday Stash Report - 6/15

This week I finished the QOV blocks for the second top our online group is working on. Then I started the top which I'm thinking about calling it Quilting Gone Wild or Out of Control. Feel free to post other suggestions in the comments. It's very bright. I finished the blocks this morning and pieced them together. I need to add the borders yet. I'm thinking of a black inner border and then either purple or blue Quilting Diva fabric for the outer border. The pattern has prairie points but I think I'm going to skip them on this one. It's got enough going on in the blocks. ;0)

I also received the Snow Wonderland kit that I ordered the other week. (I'm not going to add kits with my stash totals though.) I'm hoping to start the top in the near future so I can give it to my co-worker this year yet. She could use some cheering up right now. Last week she lost her aunt and this week her brother-in-law lost his battle with cancer.

This week's numbers (Goal: Use 50 yards by EOY):
  • Fabric Added This Week - 0 yards
  • Fabric Added as of Apr. '08 - 78-1/2 yards
  • Fabric Used This Week - 3-1/2 yards
  • Fabric Used Year to Date - 27-3/4 yards

Goals for this Coming Week:

  • Work on Block Party blocks for Kathy & Peg
  • Finish loading Turtle Talk to quilting frame and start quilting
  • Order border fabric for Quilting Diva top and finish top

Flooding, Snowstorms, Robins & Quilting Divas

Thursday we had rain, wind, thunderstorms, and flooding.

Today Snowstorms Riley & Sonny hit! Thursday I received my new Master Blaster dog dryer, which I tried out today until it got too hot. The boys are shedding bad right now, as you can tell. Riley is pretty much done, except his rump area because he kept sitting down on me. I started on Sonny, but he has a lot more that can come out. He has a very thick coat. I'd rather have these furballs on my grass than all over in the house!

Here is a picture of our resident robin with her second batch of babies. You can just see a baby's head peaking out of the nest. Several years ago they built their first nest on top of the light fixture. Each year they add a new nest. The nest is getting pretty close to the top of the porch, so I'm not sure what they'll do next year. She's so use to us going in and out of the front door now, she won't even move when we walk out. I'm not sure how many eggs were in the nest because it's a little too tall for either of us to see in, unless we get a ladder. I don't think she'd like that though. So we'll wait until they get bigger. Hopefully this time they all fit in the nest until they're ready to fly. The first batch of babies she had grew too big for the nest and one fell out. I put it back in and she left it until it was ready to fly.

CAUTION: Put on your sunglasses. Here are some of the sub-units for the Quilting Diva top I'm working on. I like bright fabrics, but this may even be a little too much for me. We'll see when I start putting it all together.

Happy Friday the 13th

Wishing everyone a Happy (and uneventful) Friday the 13th.

For those of you in the midwest, wishing you a dry weekend! We got hammered with rain last night. Part of our driveway got washed out, but thankfully that was all the damage we had. A lot of fields are now under water. The go-kart track was partially under water. Our geese and duck sure liked that! So far the radar doesn't show any more rain, but they're forecasting rain throughout the weekend. Hopefully this is one of the times they're WRONG!

Tomorrow I will be working on cutting the last Quilting Diva strip sets and starting to piece the blocks together. Then I will need to decide on what to do for border fabrics. This is going to be one very LOUD quilt so may have to tone it down a bit with the borders.

Mid-Week Update

Not much to report quilting-wise. I had off yesterday and did finish the three QOV blocks for the second top our group is working on. I also started sewing my Quilting Diva jelly roll into strip sets to make the Strawberry Jellies quilt. I'm embarrassed to say that I spent 20 minutes looking for the Strawberry Lemonade jelly roll that I never bought! (Another sign I need to stop buying!?!?) I had been looking for it, but none of the shops in my area had the jelly roll, only the charm pack (which I have 2 of). So I ended up buying the Quilting Diva jelly roll instead.

I also decided that I need to get back on my exercise and eating healthier routine. So yesterday I walked one mile. (That's why I now have a weight loss tracker on my sidebar.) I had lost 12 lbs. last year but then gained it all back over the long winter. I'm sure the fact that I had a dr. appt yesterday had nothing to do with me getting deciding to get back on track either. ;0) I'm pre-diabetic so that makes it all the more important for me to lose some weight too. Next week I have to give them blood to do another diabetic test and they're going to do some other tests for some other issues as well. With working long hours for that project all last month, I'm not holding my breath that the test results will be good. But it is what it is and we'll get the results and go from there. I know I need to work on some stuff, and that's the first step.

The goal for the rest of the week is to get my Quilting Diva strips all sewn together and start cutting. I also would like to start on the pineapple blocks for Peg & Kathy which aren't due for a while, but why procrastinate?!?!

Happy hump day! We're halfway to the weekend!

Sunday Stash Report - 6/8

I'm going to post this now since we have thunderstorms coming again today. I'll edit it if I end up getting to do any other sewing today.

I finished Bricks & Stepping Stones (see previous post) and Rambling Rose is now a top and ready to be quilted. I used 1/2 yard for the B&SS binding, 4-1/2 yards for borders on Rambling Rose and 3 yards for the backing on Turtle Talk.

This week's numbers (Goal: Use 50 yards by EOY):
  • Fabric Added This Week - 0 yards
  • Fabric Added as of Apr. '08 - 78-1/2 yards
  • Fabric Used This Week - 7-1/2 yards
  • Fabric Used Year to Date - 24-1/4 yards

Goals for this Coming Week:

  • Work on QOV blocks
  • Load Turtle Talk to quilting frame and start quilting

Finish #7

Bricks and Stepping Stones is FINISHED!!! The pattern is on Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville site. I absolutely loved putting this top together and am pretty sure that I'll make another one at some point. Maybe blues and yellows or Christmas greens and reds? I actually finished it late last night but we had severe thunderstorms plow through so I didn't want to go on the computer.

The picture is before the last border was sewn on. I will take a finished picture when DH can help.

I am planning on loading Turtle Talk to the quilting frame next. It's pretty small so should quilt up fairly quickly. Then I'll tackle the big tops....most full or queen size.

The question to my "Red Hot" post has been answered. The Brewers have lost two in a row on the road now. Hopefully they can get a "W" today!!!

Deadlines

Last night I finished adding the borders on the Rambling Rose top. Yet another top waiting to be quilted. :-(

I've been thinking about my WIP and UFO lists lately and how the same tops have been on there for almost 2 years. I think my problem is that the tops aren't going to anyone, so I don't have a deadline. I made them because I liked the pattern or fabrics, but they weren't FOR someone. So I'm going to try setting dates to have them quilted by and maybe I can get them done.

My first deadline is to get Bricks & Stepping Stones quilted by Sunday night. I'm still new to quilting with my Voyager mid-arm so it takes me a while. I've had lots of problems with thread breaking and I think it's operator error.....I want to go too fast for the machine. I'm either going to do a simple meander or use a panto. I'm going to start working on it tonight after work. I also need to get serious about working on projects I have hiding in the closet, rather than start new ones. Feel free to cheer me on. I need as much encouragement as possible to stay on track.

Red Hot!!!

That's what the Brewers are right now!!! Man was today's game a blast to watch. Kapler, Braun, Fielder, Parra, and Hart.....smoking. The best was the in the park home run! Way to hustle Corey! The question now is....can they keep this momentum as they head back on the road?!?! Hopefully the answer is a big fat YES!!!

Now for quilting, I had been doing good until I got sidetracked by the Brewers game. Now I'm gonna get busy again working on borders. I have the first border on Rambling Rose. I wanna get the last two on today yet and start quilting Bricks & Stepping Stones. I'll report my progress later.

Let the Sewing Begin!!!

The work project from hell is out the door. DH and FIL left this morning to go to Eldora Speedway to watch Prelude to the Dream and The Dream (late model races). It's just me, the dogs and my sewing machine! Tonight I plan on getting the house cleaned up a little since I worked all weekend! But tomorrow I am off of work and planning on sewing!!! I'm also going to rent some movies that DH wouldn't want to watch but I've wanted to see. Oh Happy Days!!! (Can you see me doing the happy dance?!?!?)

Items to work on while DH is away (not in any particular order):
  1. Make 3 QOV blocks for group project.
  2. Finish loading Bricks & Stepping Stones on quilting frame. Start quilting.
  3. Start Quilt for an Hour project.
  4. Finish sewing together Rambling Rose top.

I also ordered a Snow Wonderland quilt kit today. I saw it at Paducah, but since I only took my carry-on I decided not to buy it. Well, after working on this hell project, I decided that I really wanted to make it for my co-worker. She loves snowmen and she took a LOT of sh*t from one person on the team. When it arrives I'm going to work on it right away. Hopefully I'll have it done by Christmas. LOL Update: The shop emailed me that they're still waiting for one bolt from the manufacturer before they can send out the kits. I have 1-2 weeks to get some of my other projects done before it gets here!

Sunday Stash Report - 6/1

Sadly, I only stepped into the sewing room to unplug my machine during a thunderstorm this week. I have been working some grueling hours (which I'm doing this at work during a little break) but it will be over after tomorrow.

Therefore, I did not bust any stash. However, I did runaway from work for a couple hours on Thursday and went to the LQS for some fabric stress relief. Ten yards decided to go home with me. It's all for a new project for a pattern I found in the July 2008 The Quilter magazine. Most of the fabrics are from the Moroccan Spice fabric collection.

I'm hoping to take either a full day or half day during the week to recuperate and hopefully sew. Then this weekend I have the house to myself so I plan on locking myself in the house to sew!!! I'll either work on quilting the Bricks & Stepping Stones top or start Judy's Quilt for a Hour top.

This week's numbers (Goal: Use 50 yards by EOY):
  • Fabric Added This Week - 10 yards
  • Fabric Added as of Apr. '08 - 78-1/2 yards
  • Fabric Used This Week - 0 yards
  • Fabric Used Year to Date - 16-3/4 yards
Goals for this Coming Week:
  • Keep my sanity at work for a couple more days
  • Sew all weekend long
