Sweet!

Last month I re-folded a bunch of my fabric in my stash cabinet.  I found some fabric that, well let's just say, I couldn't see using in a quilt.  So I thought maybe I could use some to make pillowcases, something I haven't done before.  Judy L. posted yesterday that she made some pillowcases using Mary's tutorial.  So this morning after I came to a crossroads (see below) on Morning Splash, I decided to give it a whirl.  I shopped the stash and came up with a starry checkered fabric.  I made one to see how it turned out (it's folded up in the picture), and I have enough of the starry fabric for three more!  The other three are cut out but I'll work on them throughout the week.  Not only did I try something new, but I have a great start to stashbusting for the year and my FIRST FINISH OF THE YEAR!  I think I'm also going to make a bunch of Christmas and Halloween ones (but not today).

Here is the reason I got sidetracked.  I made the first block for Morning Splash.  See anything that doesn't quite fit?  I figured the purple fabric was going to be too dark, but I really was hoping it would work because I wanted to use this fabric up.  I stopped to mull over if I should change it with another fabric.  I know, there really was no question, but I really didn't want to cut more fabric.  After I made the first pillowcase, I started cutting out a new (lighter) purple.  Hopefully it'll look better now.

Time to eat something and then see what else I can accomplish today.

Aren't you glad you tried one block before cutting out and sewing everything? I don't think your purple would have been awful but I do believe a lighter purple will work better.

I like those fabrics you used for the pillowcase. I got a start on mine today too. Glad the instructions were useful.

Woo hoo on trying something new! I bet I could make a ton of pillowcases to get rid of some of this fabric.... I will have to keep this in mind!

I hope the light purple works better for the quilt!
