Yarn Report - 1/2/15

I really wanted to be good, but that dang ESK yarnathon was too much to resist for this competitive girl. Early yesterday they still had power boosts on the same yarns (which I really liked) as last year so I placed an order. In the past, I never really paid attention to the power boost yarns because they usually are only on the heavyweight yarns. Lately I've been more interested in the worsted and chunky yarn to knit hats and scarves. Of course, now they have the new power boost yarns up and there are some good ones listed. Help.

Yarn Report - Week Ending 12/5/14

Here is my haul from the Black Friday sales. Now I want to cast on all the projects, but I won't let myself until I finish Carabe and Heathered. By that time it'll be January and it'll be time to start BlueSand, which is OK.

The Loopy Ewe had a sale on their sport and DK weight yarns.  I got one skein of Shalimar Breathless DK in Black Truffle (for a hat) and Madelinetosh Pashmina in Big Sur (YUM!) for a sweater.

ESK had their big Black Friday sale. You are guaranteed at least 10% off, but could receive anything up to 100% off.  Most of my yarn had a power boost so I kept moving up levels on the yarnathon which gave me $20 or $25 credits. I ended up finishing the yarnathon. This was my first time actually finishing. All the yarn has a specific project linked to it except for a couple of the single skeins. Those will likely become a hat or mittens.

I'm done ordering yarn for this year except for a yarn sale that starts on Christmas.

Yarn Report - Week Ending 11/14/14

I finished a second Windschief hat which used 125 yards. 

Both of my WEBS orders came last week but I didn't get to post until now. The first package had some new (to me) yarn and new (to me) colorways.  Shalimar Equus, Homage, and Madelinetosh.

The second order had Rowan Pure Wool Worsted yarn to use for Hay Cove, the test knit that Judy just finished. I ordered a couple extra colors in case one color didn't play nice with the rest.

The two purples that didn't make the cut.

I also received an order from Madelinetosh which had two colorways that I wanted to see in real life - Fir Wreath and Simone.

Nothing has come in this week. Hard to believe isn't it? I have two finishes to report. The check mittens used 187 yards and the Windschief hat used 125 yards.

There will be more yarn next week though. WEBS has free shipping thru today and, as some of you may know, they also offer discounts if you buy $X number of yarn. I took this opportunity to order some new (to me) yarn and some old favorites in colorways that I've never had before.

As I mentioned last week, I ordered more of the Knitted Wit Victory DK yarn, but this time directly from the dyer. I'm planning on using it on the pattern Raspberry Tart (Ravelry link), but mine will be called Key Lime Pie.

Yarn Report - Week Ending 10/17/14

I squirreled away some more yarn this week. The other week I saw a blog post about a DK weight yarn from a designer that I'd never heard of before, Knitted Wit. The up-close pictures of the yarn looked gorgeous so I decided to order some for Carabe. I bought some Victory DK from the online store Twisted. Let me tell you, I think this is going to be one of my favorite yarns. Right after it arrived I swatched to see if I could get gauge. The stitch definition was beautiful and it has a nice twist and it is "sproing-alicious" (that's how the designer describes it).

After the yarn above came, I also may have gone directly to the designer's Etsy site and ordered more for some other sweater patterns. (Yahoo, it shipped today!) What I love about her Etsy site is that you choose the colorway and then you can choose the weight and quantity. Otherwise you know how it goes, they have the right color but in the wrong weight or the right color and weight but then not enough skeins available.

My other purchase was a sweater quantity of Madelinetosh DK Twist in a new colorway, Resin. I can't decide if I like it or not. One minute it looks too brown (for me), then when I look at it again, it's a nice brownish-orange. It doesn't help that it's difficult to photo either. This is what the shop's picture looked like.

I think the cooler weather is stirring up my hibernating instincts. I'm like a squirrel gathering all of his/her acorns/nuts in preparation for the cold winter, except for me I'm stocking up on yarn. This week I received a one time 15% discount at Eat.Sleep.Knit from one of their Yarnathon challenge.

Upper left is Malabrigo Rios in Feathered Teal, Madelinetosh Pashmina in Dahlia (it's really supposed to be purple, not red), Yarn Love Anne Shirley in Ochre, and Malabrigo Sock in Lettuce.

On a positive note, I'm way behind compared to the amount of yarn that I bought last year.

My Blue Moon Fiber Arts yarn came for Carol Feller's Capall Dubh KAL.

I also ordered my bonus yarn from Camp Loopy. They just received a shipment of Madelinetosh Pashmina so I also ordered a couple skeins....one to see what the new color looked like and another to make a scarf for a coworker who will be retiring next year. Another skein for a future cowl and to get free shipping.

The first is King Filtes Australian Merino in Periwinkle from Elann.com.

The second is Wollmeise's new sportweight yarn called Blend in Kornblume. It's sooo soft.

The School Spirit Cowl was completed which used 214 yards.

I've gone a little crazy on ordering yarn this month. Let's just say they're early birthday presents to myself. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Nothing has come in yet, but I ordered (directly from Germany) a sweater's quantity worth of Wollmeise's new sportweight yarn, Blend (564 yards/skein of merino, cashmere and nylon). Several knitters have said it's as good, if not better, than Bugga yarn. 

Then earlier this week I received an email that Elann will be closing their online shop and selling yarn through Amazon so I had a gift card balance that needed to be used up before November. Both packages should be arriving in the next week.

Five skeins of Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Heavyweight in Cranberry Bogged.  The picture leans towards red, but it's a wonderful Cranberry color!

My school supplies arrived for the Loopy Academy - top right Cascade 220 in Magenta (mittens), bottom right - Biscotte & Cie Felix in Eragon (cowl), bottom left Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Mediumweight in Thraven Fledge (hat). Of course, I had to buy a book bag to hold my school supplies. I've had my eye on this bag ever since it was available.

Well, nothing to report this week. My Blue Moon Fiber Arts yarn hasn't arrived yet but I'm sure a lot of people placed orders before the prices went up. There is other yarn on the way though. The Loopy Ewe has replaced their quarterly challenges with the Loopy Academy. Once my school supplies (yarn) arrive, I will get started right away. Hard to believe I'm going to be a freshman again. LOL

The funny thing is that just last weekend I had created a knitting plan for the rest of the year. After I finish Heathered, I was going to knit either Sambuca or BlueSand. Guess that plan may be put on hold for a bit. If only there were more hours in the day.

Nothing in or out this week. This does not mean I haven't been *looking*. The new Interweave Knits magazine came out last week, as well as the new Twist Collective Fall patterns. I found several patterns that I would love to knit which lead me to looking for possible yarn/color choices.

My favorite one being the Saddleback Cardigan (photos taken by Interweave Knits). Look at that back with all those cables! Yum!

Wow, where did July go? How can it be August already? I finished Wanderling which used 1,021 yards. My ESK order came in which was 1,585 yards. The yarn is Mrs. Crosby Hat Box in Creme Fraiche. It's the same yarn that I used for Wanderling. At least I'm less than 10,000 in the hole.

No yarn in this week. There is a package on its way that I will record next week. Eat.Sleep.Knit had a "silk" yarn sale for the 10K members. I had asked Judy about a colorway which led her to placing an order. I felt a little guilty, so I ordered 5 skeins of Mrs. Crosby Hat Box (the same yarn I'm using on Wanderling) to make a Heathered (Ravelry link) cardigan. I should be able to record some "used" yardage next week too to help offset some of this new yarn.
