Finish #5

I finally have another finish! The pattern is Fat Quarter Frenzy by Darlene Zimmerman and it's in the Better Homes and Gardens Quilts & More Premier Issue from 2005. I call it 30s Pinwheel Stars. This monster is 91-1/2" x 104" and it's one of my oldest UFOs. It sure feels good to finish it although it's kind of bittersweet. I had started it the week my dog Wesley got sick and we ended up losing him. I still can remember trying to cut squares and rectanges with tears in my eyes....not a good thing to do with a rotary cutter in hand, but I was trying to put my mind on other things (without much success).

Here is the latest picture of my top from Judy's Quilt-Along. After I put the sashing on I was thinking it was too much teal/turquoise but seeing it here I kinda like it. I still need to add another border. I'm think it may be the final border. Judy has about three more on her pattern, one made of HSTs. The next couple weeks are going to be pretty busy, so I may just put one more border on it and be done with it.

I also have some of the feathered star pieced together. I hope to finish it tomorrow.

We are dog-sitting for some friends. While we were waiting for the dogs to do their business outside, we played one game of bowling and tried the baseball and boxing on their Wii. It's a good thing we don't have one because I'd never get anything done.

It's been a good day!

That is BEAUTIFUL!!

I understand about quilting while you grieve. Why was Wesley sick? That must have been an awful time.

I can't stop looking at your pinwheels. I have been collecting 30's fabrics and want to make something like you did. It is just so free and happy.

I like the teal and black combination...very appealing! and one can never go 'wrong' in my opinion with 30's fabric...but I was wondering...does one always use white as the background on a 30's quilt?

Not too much teal, it plays so nicely with the rest of the quilt!

the 30s pinwheel stars is perfect! Darlene Zimmerman writes a good pattern. Your fabrics are just lovely. The tan softens it, but lets the other fabrics shine.

Love both quilts! The colors for the bear paw are so striking and think the HST border would add so much but definitely understand the time constraints of doing it. The colors are not what I would find myself choosing for me but I need to get out of my box and look at other fabric choices and not stick with the same old colors and styles. One of these days I'm going to make a 30's fabric quilt.
