Road Trip - Part 1

Last weekend we made our regular trek to Ohio to watch races.  This year a friend of ours decided to come along (might have had something to do with hubby nudging him all winter).  It was nice because he didn't mind driving through Chicago.  We made good time until we got closer to O'Hare, then we were at a stand-still for a while, which gave me some quality knitting time.

On Friday we checked out some of the local history.  We went to St. Marys to see where the old canal had been.  When we pulled into the parking lot, we saw this cool bridge.

There was also a little water fountain near the river (which looked nicer from a distance).

A tower in honor of the citizens of St. Marys...

...and their military

Here are the boys checking out the replica boat that showed how it worked back in the day.

I couldn't believe how far along the flowers were in Ohio, much further than at home.  Some irises.

And this tree.  I don't know what kind it is, but I love the flowers.

We also drove over to New Bremen but there really wasn't much to photo.  Then we ate, napped, and headed to the track where we got pretty lucky that the rain held off until lap 25 of the feature.  Then it poured and we watched everyone scrambling in the rain while we waited for it to let up.  Sweet hubby ran to the car when it let up some and drove the car to the building so we wouldn't have to get wet!  What a great guy!

See my next post for Day 2 of the trip.

It looks like you guys had a good time on Friday! I'm glad that the weather held out as long as it did and that you could enjoy some of the sights!
