FO: Gelsomina

For those of you who follow the On The Needles posts, you will be happy to know that this will be the LAST time you have to see this.  My Gelsomina sweater is FINISHED!  It is a little long so I rolled up the bottom a little. Otherwise it feels comfortable the little bit that I've worn it so far.

Next up is to re-knit the buttonband on my Charleston Tea. Then I can cast on something NEW!

On the Needles - 12/20/13

It's still not quite finished, but I did make progress this week. I managed to seam the right side on my day off and started seaming the left side. All that is left to seam is along the sleeve and side of the body.  Hopefully I can finish that tonight! Then I just need to weave in the ends.

My year-end goal is to finish Gelsomina and re-knit the buttonband on Charleston Tea. Then I can start the new year with a clean slate. It's still feasible since I'll have a couple days off during the holidays, but hubby may have other plans than me knitting.

Yes, my reports are late. It's has been crazy busy and not much knitting time.  My Gelsomina now has a neckband. The sleeves and side seams still need to be seamed up.

The last of my Black Friday yarn has arrived.  First up is Madelinetosh Pashmina in Kelp to make Flourishing (Ravelry link).  What a gorgeous color!

Last is my The Loopy Ewe order. They were having a sale on solid color yarn so I ordered sweater quantities of three different colors - Bluestone, Carmine Heather, and Primavera.

Cable Surgery Done!

I put on my big girl panties, took a deep breath and went from this...

to this... (look at Loopy peeking through the unraveled stitches...he can't believe it either)

It took me an hour and a couple do-overs, but I'm ready to move forward and finish the sleeves!! I'm so glad that I decided to give it a shot and tackle the fix on my own.

On the Needles - 11/29/13

Good News: I am decreasing for the cap sleeve for my sweater.

Bad News: I was not able to finish the cap sleeve for my sweater. Can you see why?

I made a lot of progress last Sunday. I was starting to get tired and should have quit but I tried to get a couple more rows knit. When I picked this up on Tuesday, I noticed an error on the second sleeve. When I did the left twist cable, I must have put the stitches to the back instead of the front. I don't know how to fix it. Well I know what needs to be done, but I've never fixed cables before and I'm not brave enough to try it on my own. I may take it to the local LYS to see if someone there can fix it for me.

Until then, I cast on a hat which is almost done. This is the Steinway hat in Madelinetosh Vintage, colorway Cherry. This hat will go with the scarf I knit for the last Camp Loopy project. (Sorry for the bad lighting.)

On the Needles - 11/22/13

The sleeves are growing! I had a little more knitting time this week. I feel like I'm forcing myself to keep going on them though. I haven't really felt like knitting much lately. I think I'm ready to move onto something new. I'm sure you all are ready to see something new too. After reading other's blogs/comments, I'm not the only one who has lost the knitting mojo. 

Back to what this post is really about. The sleeves are currently at 12.5 inches. According to the pattern I should knit to 16-3/4 inches but then they'll be too long for my arms. I'll probably knit another 2 or 2.5 inches and then start the sleeve cap.

Here is my progress on the sleeves for Gelsomina. You'd think that with the colder weather I would have more time to knit, but between vacation, work and class I haven't had much time. When I do have a spare moment, I'm usually too tired to knit. I'm hoping I can have this done before the end of the year.

On the Needles - 11/1/13

Just in the nick of time for this post, I finished the front of my Gelsomina sweater!!! My plan is to cast on the sleeves two at a time so when I bind off they'll be done.

I'm already thinking what my next project will be, but in reality I shouldn't be starting a new project any time soon. It will take me a while to knit the sleeves. Then I still have to seam everything together which I've been known to procrastinate on. Once Gelsomina is finished, I should go back to Charleston Tea and finish the buttonband so I can mark that as a finish too. Then I'd be able to record two sweater quantities worth of yarn as used on my yarn report (which would help my numbers tremendously). That way I can start Dianthe in January and the New Year with a clean slate. What are you going to cast on next?

On the Needles - 10/25/13

The front is up to 15 inches long. I have about 1-3/4 inches left before I start shaping for the armhole. The pattern is Gelsomina Aran.

Slowly but surely making progress on the front of Gelsomina. It's currently 9.5 inches long. The weather is getting colder here in Wisconsin. I need to knit faster so I can wear this soon.

On the Needles - 10/11/13

The Fall Line Scarf is finished!  The yarn is Madelinetosh Vintage in the Cherry colorway.  I really fell in love with this colorway.  (So much that I ordered enough today to knit a sweater.) The funny thing is it was my second choice. I guess it was meant to be.

After finishing the scarf, I picked up Gelsomina and finished knitting the back.  I ended up putting the middle stitches on waste yarn.

When that was done, I cast on the for the front.  I'm knitting the next size larger to accommodate for the "girls".

On the Needles - 9/19/13

Look a little different from last week?  It was a busy week so I didn't get as much knit as I had hoped, but it's getting there.  Sorry for the crappy picture, it was dark out when I was able to take this picture.

I had to rip out the first couple rows of the armhole shaping and start over because the moss stitch got goofed up again. Thankfully I put in a lifeline before I had started the armhole shaping just for that reason.

My goal is to have the back finished by next week's post.

On the Needles - 9/13/13

The back is currently at 12.5 inches long.  I have 4.25 inches left before starting to shape the armholes. Hopefully next week this will look more like a sweater. I have about one more row and then I'll have to add the second skein.

I know this will block out a little bigger, but right now it's about 3 inches smaller than the schematic shows.  My gauge is right on, but between the moss stitch and the cables, it's really pulling in.  Since I don't want this tight on me, I'm going to do the armhole shaping based on the next size up.  When I cast on the front, I'll cast on for that size.  This should help account for the "girls" and give me a little more ease.

On the Needles - 9/6/13

The back of Gelsomina looks a little different than last week.  Now it's 7 inches long. I was worried that I was going to dislike the moss stitch (still might happen) because it's k1, p1, etc. but so far it's going alright.

Looking at this picture, it looks like I messed up on the moss stitch about 3 inches from the bottom, probably when I did the first decrease. I got a little confused with the instructions. It doesn't look that obvious when I hold it up.  Do I call it a design feature since it will be in the back?
