Small Spark

There was a small spark of sewing today.  I really wanted to start a new project this morning but my conscience took over and I chose to continue working on Canterbury Crossings instead.  I pieced the last sashing row and last two block rows, pieced all the rows together and added the first border.  There are three more borders to go and it'll be a flimsie.  THEN I can start a new project.

I really love the fabrics in this top and the color combo.  If I would have had more of this fabric, I would have made this a queen size because it would have looked lovely on our bed.

Year of the PIGS - Why, Why, Why????

I'm a little late responding to the Year of the PIGS question from last week.  The question is WHY do you have PIGS and UFOs?  Boy, is this a loaded question.

The main reason I have UFOs is because:

a)  I have Quilter's ADD and get sidetracked by another project,
b)  I get to a part of the project where the piecing becomes tedious/putzy (and I get lazy); and/or
c)  My project is ready to be quilted and that's my least favorite part of quilting.

The reason I have PIGS is a little more difficult to answer but usually it's because I am already working on something when the kit or idea comes.  Then by the time that WIP is done (or to the flimsie stage), I have another project/kit that I want to start.  Another reason, there are only so many hours in the day and unfortunately, not enough of it is devoted to sewing; especially now that I've learned to knit.  Now that I have slowed WAY down on buying kits, I'm hoping I can get some of them turned into finishes or, at the very least, UFOs.

That's it.  I've spilled my guts.  What's your reason?

Year of the PIGS - 1/19

So this week for the Year of PIGS, Jill asked us to blog about our oldest PIG and how many PIGS and UFOs we have.

According to my "Waiting Line (PIGS)" tab on my blog, I currently have 49 (that I have listed...I'm sure there are some that I've forgotten about)!  I started working on PIG #6 on my challenge list, so technically I started the year with 50+ PIGS.  Is that C-R-A-Z-Y or what?!?!

As for UFOs, I have 22 flimsies and 11 PhDs (Projects Half Done), not including Canterbury Crossing...my PIG #6.

I believe my oldest PIG is Havenly Stars.  I had the receipt with the kit and I bought it in 2004!  It's on my challenge list, so this year may be THE year to start into it.  Hopefully it doesn't become a UFO!

I definitely have got my work cut out for me.

Project Inventory - Noel Elegant Star

Christmas will be here before we know it.  I bought this kit quite a while ago too.  I think I bought this more for the pattern than the fabrics.  Not sure I like that floral "border" fabric.

Project Inventory - Witches Brew

I first saw this wallhanging in the Keepsake Quilting catalog and immediately fell in love with it because it's so lifelike.  By the time I decided to order it, it had been sold out.  But when I was at Paducah for the quilt show two years ago, the pattern designer, Seams Like Home, had a booth and was selling the pattern, kit AND (what I feel makes or breaks the quilt) the face/hands of the witch.  There was no way I could pass that up because I never would have been able to make the face turn out that good. Mine would have looked like a cartoon character.

Project Inventory - Convoy

My 3 year old nephew would love this quilt (on the book cover) for his room.  I found the kit at the International Quilt Show in Chicago last year.  The pattern is from Buggy Barns' book Those Crazy Kids.

Project Inventory - Welcome to My Pad

I bought this kit to make for my mom and stepdad since they collect frog things.  I am hoping to get this made for Christmas.  The pattern I'm making is the banner (lower right).

Project Inventory - Peace

I absolutely adore this wallhanging, but it's all applique....and I tend to start applique projects and then put them aside.

Project Inventory - Havenly Stars

This is one of the first kits I bought (back in 2004!) when I started quilting.  YIKES!  I love the colors and the stars.  The pattern is from the book Kansas City Scrapbook by Atkinson Designs.  I have no idea why I never started it, maybe the pattern looked harder back then.

Love the bright colors of Fruit Salad!   Hope you're not getting sick of seeing these, because (sadly) there are a LOT more to go.

Project Inventory - American Homestead

From the March/April 2009 McCall's quilting magazine.  Another pattern I fell in love with when I saw it, but sadly hasn't been started yet.

Project Inventory - Gobble Gobble

I bought this kit last year at the Madison Quilt Show.  I thought it was really cute.  Maybe I can get this one done before Thanksgiving this year.

Project Inventory - Crimson Cranes

Just like my UFOs, I'm going to post about projects that are waiting for my attention.  This pattern is called Crimson Cranes and it's from the book titled On the Double.  The intent of the book is to be able to make two different looking quilts (as shown on the left page of the book) with the strips that you make.  I've pulled a bunch of red, white and black fabrics for the blocks and the red/black fabric just above the book will be for the border.

Project Inventory - Canterbury Crossing

This was a kit I bought to go along with the pattern Canturbury Crossing, which was published in The Quilter magazine, November 2008 issue.  I love the color combo.
